one volunteer puts it, the best part of the job is greeting people
who are new to the Central Coast and helping them appreciate the
natural setting, extending as far as their eyes can see-from mountain
ridges and foothills across the marine environment to the islands.

Some of the benefits that come with being a volunteer at the visitor center are:
- Volunteering in one of the best viewing spots in Santa Barbara
- Field and classroom training sessions about Channel Islands National Park, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, Los Padres National Forest and local outdoor activities.
- An Adventure Pass from the Los Padres National Forest after 100 continuous hours of service. This parking pass is good for one year.
- Student internships are available
- Annual recognition barbecue
- Educational materials and posters from the park, sanctuary and forest

The center's Volunteer Coordinator provides initial training. This training usually takes about four hours and upon completion the new volunteer will feel comfortable staffing the center.
New volunteers will be asked to commit to one shift per week. Parking in city lots is free during initial training and staffing the center.
